Heritage High Green invited me to join with them to organise an event at Kinsey Road Sheltered Scheme on Friday 8th May. Residents of this and nearby sheltered schemes plus others took part in a singsong, lots of reminiscences, flag waving! and a bit of dancing. The heritage group threw themselves into the spirit of things decorating the room, putting together a display and making the refreshments which included ‘typical’ food of the time – dripping, jam and spam sandwiches, jelly, blancmange and sponge cakes.
I found it great fun and so interesting listening to some of the stories about both the ups and downs of the wartime experiences. Some of these will feature later in other posts. I was also pleased that yet again! people are coming forward with suggestions for the archive and more events.
