The launch event took place at Chapeltown Library on Saturday 25th April. It was well attended with over 150 people through the day. The librarians remarked that they had been hoping to come and look at the displays but had been so busy there hadn’t been time. As well as a small display by the project, Chapeltown & High Green Archive, the Ecclesfield Conservation & Local History Group, Grenoside & District Local History Group and Heritage High Green also provided displays and talked to many of the people who visited. It was very enjoyable and the project co-ordinator now has several more volunteers and new material to look through.
There will be a small display in the library over the next few weeks which includes a couple of mystery objects we want help in identifying – please call in and see if you can help.
Ecclesfield Parish Council’s Past & Present Archiving Project launch event is taking place on Saturday 25th April at Chapeltown Library. Everyone is welcome to drop in between 10am and 3pm to look at the local history exhibition and find out more about the project. A formal welcome will take place at 10.30am.
There will be displays by Chapeltown & High Green Archive, Ecclesfield Conservation & Local History Group, Grenoside & District Local History Group and Heritage High Green covering different aspects of life in the area. And, as well as a display looking at the history of the Civil Parish Council & Wortley Rural District; information from Sheffield Archives & Local Studies; and a selection of the local history material available in Chapeltown Library will be on show.
We will be asking people to help identify some ‘mystery’ photos and add their ‘I remember when…’ memories to the Archiving Project. There will also be more information on how to get involved with the project and a chance to talk to local history group volunteers and local history experts.
More news and events related to the archive project will be posted on the site to keep people up to date on progress.
